Using Ubuntu Linux - Installed By The Wubi Ubuntu Linux Installer On Windows
When you install Ubuntu Linux on an existing Windows system with the Wubi Ubuntu Installer, you have actually created a "new syle" dual-boot Windows / Ubuntu Linux system.
When Ubuntu Linux is installed like this, it is a fully functional version of Ubuntu Linux and the Ubuntu Linux OS, and all it's software components, are actually located
in a folder on your Windows system.
But by default, when you boot into Ubuntu (instead of Windows), you don't have access to the Windows OS and can't run any Windows software programs - and with this setup you can only run one OS (Windows or Linux) at a time.
However, you can access your Windows data files from within Ubuntu Linux. The Windows partition on which you installed Ubuntu (typically your drive C:) is in /host and other Windows partitions (if they exist) are in /media.
Starting Ubuntu Linux On A Windows System After Installing Ubuntu Using The Wubi
To run Ubuntu Linux after installing it on an existing Windows system with Wubi, just boot the system and then a menu will appear (that is displayed by the Windows boot loader).
This menu has two options: 1. Windows and 2. Ubuntu Linux.
Select the "Ubuntu Linux" option and this will start the fully functional version of Ubuntu Linux.
You can do everything you would normally be able to do in Ubuntu Linux, including modifying system settings, creating users, creating directories and creating data files. However, because Ubuntu is in a folder in Windows, it may (or may not) be slightly slower than installing it on an "old style" dual-boot system.
Ubuntu Linux training Tips: Keep in mind that when you boot a system where the Wubi Ubuntu Installer was used to install Ubuntu Linux, you either boot into Windows or boot into Ubuntu Linux. You can't use both operating systems at the same time (as you can when you use a virtual machine to run Linux in Windows).
