Ubuntu Linux - The Cons Of Using Ubuntu Linux - Checking Hardware Compatibility

Ubuntu Linux Hardware Compatibility Lists - Checking The Compatibility Of Your Hardware Components

To see if your computer system, or a piece of internal or external hardware is compatible with Ubuntu Linux, you check the hardware compatibility lists (a.k.a. HCL) by clicking on the link below:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport

At the above web page, you can learn how to identify your computer hardware. And you'll also see

many categories of computer hardware.

For example, below the Preconfigured Systems heading, you will see headings like: Desktops Laptops and Servers. And these HCL lists detail systems that work with Ubuntu Linux by top brand name manufacturers like: Acer, Apple, Compaq, Dell and HP!

And below Hardware Components, you will see several categories such as: Modems, Mouse, Printers, Sound Cards, Video Cards, and other hardware devices.

Search these HCL lists carefully to see if your computer hardware will work properly with Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: Ubuntu Linux does not currently have sufficient support for internal or external modems. This is not to be confused with using a cable modem to access the Internet via cable t.v. lines. Internet access via cable modem usually works just fine; but if you have an internal or external phone modem, then your modem may not work with Ubuntu Linux.

For example, if you are using Windows and already use an internal or external modem (not a cable modem) to access the Internet via a telephone line, then that modem may not work in Ubuntu Linux and you may need to specifically buy a modem that will work with Ubuntu.
