Ubuntu Linux - The Cons Of Using An Ubuntu Linux Desktop System - Online Ubuntu Linux Training

There are pros and cons to using Ubuntu Linux as a Linux desktop operating system or server operating system, and we've had a look at the pros, so now we're going to have a look at some of the cons.

Ubuntu Linux Desktop Systems - Software Requirements

Ubuntu Linux can be used by companies, organizations, home office users and individual users.

And whether Ubuntu Linux is ready for use as a desktop system by anyone, depends on

the hardware that you already have - and what you need to be able to do with the Ubuntu Linux software.

Now we're going to have a look at your software compatibility requirements.

Ubuntu Linux And The Open Office Suite Of Programs

Earlier, you saw in great detail how similar the Open Office Suite of programs is to the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

And if you're in an environment where all you need to do is run a browser, do email, and use office productivity programs, such as a word processor, spreadsheet and graphics program, then the Ubuntu Linux desktop version, which comes with all of these software programs, is definitely ready for you - and offers you much, much more than this!

Ubuntu Linux And Windows Commercial Software Programs

There may be one or more commercial software programs that are easily available for Windows, that you must have to be able to do your work. However, that same software program - or an equivalent software program - may or may not be available in Ubuntu Linux.

Make a list of the software programs that you need to use and then check to see if these programs work in Ubuntu Linux, or if you can do some steps to make them work in Ubuntu Linux (such as by using Wine or some other software program), or if you can find an equivalent Linux program that will work well enough for you in Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: You can download and install an open source software program named Wine (in the same easy way that you download and install any software program in Ubuntu Linux) - and Wine allows you to run some - but nowhere near all Windows software programs in Ubuntu Linux.

This may be a solution for you if your Windows program works with Wine.
