Ubuntu Linux lets you use thousands of Linux software programs - free!

Many of you are familiar with Microsoft's "Office" Suite of programs, which includes: Word (word processor), Excel (spreadsheet), PowerPoint (presentation), Access (database), and other programs.

These programs are all run from the Windows desktop.

As with Windows - Linux has the "Open Office" Suite of programs for Ubuntu Linux!

Notice the word "Open" in "Open Office" - more on this later.

This "Open Office" Suite of programs is being used daily by millions of people

all over the world. And it's been in use for over 20 years. It's fully tested and has been carefully developed over a long period of time - and it's free - yes, free!

You can use the free Open Office suite of programs to do: word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentations, graphics, database, and lots of other office productivity tasks.

Here's an example of how popular the Open Office Suite is: It has been it downloaded over 40 million times - and the estimated number of users is much higher!

Here are some Ubuntu Linux Software Programs included in the Open Office Suite programs:

Writer - used for word processing, like word

Calc - used for working with spreadsheets, like Excel

Draw - used for graphics, similar to Photoshop

Base - used for a database program, like Access

Ubuntu Linux Tips: Open Office Org (openoffice.org) is often abbreviated in Linux documentation as OOo - and sometimes OOo is used to refer to the Open Office Suite (not just the web site).

IMPORTANT: The Open Office Suite is free and ALSO runs on ANY Windows system!

Ubuntu Linux software programs aren't limited to just the Open Office Suite.

There are thousands of free Linux software programs available to do things like:

• send and receive email - with attachments, such as music and video files

• organize and edit your photos and other graphics and video files

• listen to songs and manage your music and audio files

• communicate with others on the Internet, such as chatting by instant messaging

• browse the Internet for information - and download data and other Linux software programs

• create and edit your music and audio files with recording software, such as Linux midi software

You can easily run a program from within Ubuntu that allows you to: search for free Linux software programs, select them, download them and automatically install them - with just a few clicks!
