Ubuntu Linux Desktop and Software Programs - Other Windows Similarities

So far, you've seen that there are lots of similarities between the Ubuntu Linux desktop and software programs - and the Windows desktop and software programs.

In addition to all these desktop similarities

between Ubuntu and Windows, there are even more desktop similarities - and all these similarities make the transition from Windows to Ubuntu so much easier!

Other Similarities Between The Ubuntu Linux Desktop And The Windows Desktop

The Windows desktop and the Ubuntu desktop are they both highly customizable - so you can modify them to get the "look and feel" that you want!

On the Ubuntu Linux and Windows desktops you can easily:

create icons for popular items you work with (such as programs, folders and data files)

add commonly used software programs to program menus

set the colors for items that appear on the desktop

show a graphic image on the desktop

and so much more!

Ubuntu Linux (Open Office) Software and Windows (Office) Software

Here are some of similarities between Ubuntu Linux software and Windows software:

programs are run from a menu or by double-clicking on an icon

program windows work the same for minimizing, maximizing and closing

program windows work the same for scrolling up and down and left and right

keyboard shortcuts for commonly used tasks are the same, such as Ctrl+C for Copy

menu headings across the top of program windows, such as File and Edit, are the same or similar

commonly used tasks are done with similar steps, such as selecting the File menu and then selecting Print

Ubuntu Linux "Open Office" Software Programs vs. Microsoft "Office" Programs

The Ubuntu Linux (Open Office) software programs, sometimes referred to with "OOo" for OpenOffice.Org appear below and the Windows counterpart appears in brackets at the right.

Ubuntu Linux has the Writer word processing program (like Word), the Calc spreadsheet program (like Excel), the Impress presentation program (like PowerPoint), the Draw graphics program (far superior to Paint) and the Base database program (Access).

And all these programs work almost exactly the same as the Windows counterpart.
