Running Ubuntu Linux In Windows - Using Ubuntu Linux In A Virtual Machine

Using A Virtual Machine To Run Ubuntu Linux In Windows

A virtual machine is a software program that you can download and install in Windows, in the same way as you install any program in Windows (by just double-clicking on the icon for the program and following the prompts).

Once you've installed the virtual machine, you can run the virtual machine and then run Ubuntu Linux - or any one of several Linux distributions - from within Windows - and this greatly reduces the risk of

messing up your Windows system and stopping it from working.

Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: If you install Ubuntu Linux on an existing Windows system (to create a dual-boot system), you modify the hard disk setup, and make other changes to your Windows system, that may stop it from working completely.

And even worse, there is no easy way to uninstall Ubuntu Linux, or any distribution of Linux, from a dual-boot Windows / Linux system.

When you install a virtual machine in Windows, and then run Linux from within the virtual machine (in Windows), you do fewer modifications to the hard disk in your system. You can easily uninstall the virtual machine in the same way as you uninstall any Windows program.

Here's how to use a virtual machine to run Ubuntu Linux and Windows:

  • Boot into Windows and run your browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  • Download a virtual machine "player program", such as VMware or Virtual Box.
  • Install the virtual machine player program.
  • Download a Linux virtual machine into Windows and put it in a folder.
  • Run the virtual machine "player program" in Windows (in the same way as you run any Windows program).
  • Open the virtual machine that you download it and put in a folder in Windows.

And you've got Linux up and running from within Windows!
