Installing Ubuntu Linux in Windows by Using the Wubi (Windows-Based Ubuntu Installer) for Linux
If you already have a Windows system and want to quickly and easily install Ubuntu Linux, you can use the Wubi Installer (Windows-based Ubuntu Installer).
When you use the Wubi Installer to install Ubuntu Linux, you get a fully functional Ubuntu Linux system and you DON'T have to do a "typical" installation that modifies your Windows hard disk settings!
Make sure your Windows system meets these minimum System Requirements for using Wubi to Install Ubuntu Linux:
5 GB hard disk space, 256 MB memory, Windows 98, 2000, XP, or Vista

do a complete backup of your entire Windows system - twice! - And also test your backups to make sure that you can restore from them.

Run Windows and run your browser - Firefox (secure) or Internet Explorer (less secure)
Click the big "Download" button to download the small Wubi .exe file (1 MB) to your Windows desktop
Double-click on the .exe file on the Windows desktop to run it
Type in a Username and Password (and keep them in a safe place) - and you can also modify some other settings here, but you don't need to
Follow the prompts to install Ubuntu Linux directly into Windows!
