Installing Ubuntu Linux From CD - Easy And Fast From A Single Ubuntu Linux CD

You can use the Ubuntu Linux CD and install Ubuntu Linux onto the hard disk in your computer system.

To do this, you just boot from your Ubuntu Linux CD and then you're running Ubuntu Linux "live" and the GNOME desktop appears. At this point, you can see

an icon on the GNOME desktop named "Install".

Starting the Ubuntu Linux Installation Routine

To start the Ubuntu Linux installation routine, and have it copy the Ubuntu Linux distribution from CD onto your hard disk, you just double-click on the "Install" icon.

Ubuntu Linux has one of the easiest and most straightforward installations I have ever seen. You can actually install Ubuntu Linux on your hard disk in less than a half an hour!

To install Ubuntu Linux on your hard disk, you just answer a few simple questions that are presented to you in plain English - as opposed to doing an installation of many other Linux distributions, where you are asked many highly technical questions - and non-technical people often have no idea what these questions mean!

Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: You can install Ubuntu Linux on an existing Windows system and create what is called a dual-boot (Windows and Linux) system (which is not recommended!).

During the dual-boot installation, you specify the amount of space to be used by Windows, and this reduces the amount of space used by Windows, which creates empty disk space on which to install Ubuntu Linux.

After doing this type of installation and creating a dual-boot system, when you boot the system from its hard disk, you get a menu and you can either boot into Windows or boot into Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu Linux Training Tips: Creating a dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu Linux system is not recommended because there is no easy way to uninstall Ubuntu Linux if you decide that you don't want it on your system.

However, if you have a Windows system where you know that you don't need the programs and data on the system, and can easily install Windows again if something goes wrong, then in these circumstances, a dual-boot system may be a good way to try Ubuntu - but using the Wubi install (with the Windows-based Ubuntu Installer) or a virtual machine install will likely be much better.

Always back up your Windows system - twice - programs and data - before installing Ubuntu Linux on Windows.
